The NZ Region of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, the NZ Cardiac Clinical Network, the National Cardiothoracic Surgery Clinical Network and the National Heart Foundation of New Zealand have released a statement on COVID vaccination in the context of cardiovascular disease.
Here is a link to the statement, and a summary of the recommendations:
“We recommend all patients with cardiovascular disease are vaccinated with Comirnaty (Pfizer) or another approved vaccine as early as possible.
For unvaccinated patients’ vaccination is encouraged prior to hospital discharge or during the next 2 weeks either in primary care, at a vaccination centre, or at the time of an outpatient visit.
Vaccination status should be determined for all patients and relevant advice included in medical correspondence. We recommend that DHB’s and the Ministry of Health take steps to enable this recommendation.”
